This is an incredible cake. It comes from a Sunday School classmate who is an incredible baker. She has made this for the class several times and it is always a big hit. Enjoy
Ingredients:
4 cups cake flour
2-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1-3/4 cup shortening
1-3/4 cup milk
3 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla
5 eggs
14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
frosting
5-1/3 cups powdered sugar
1 cup baking cocoa
3/4 cup butter softened
2/3 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 then grease and flour 3 round cake pans.
2. Mix flour, sugar, shortening, milk, baking powder, salt, vanilla and eggs in a large bowl.
3. Beat on low speed 30 seconds scraping bowl occasionally.
4. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes scraping bowl occasionally then pour batter into pans.
5. Bake 35 minutes then cool 10 minutes and remove from pans.
6. Poke a number of holes halfway through each layer using the handle of a wooden spoon.
7. Pour milk into holes then cool completely.
8. Combine all frosting ingredients and beat until frosting is smooth and spreadable.
9. Frost between layers and on top and sides of cake.
