Homemade Vegetable Beef Barley Soup

This is my dads recipe for vegetable soup. Over the years I've added the barley and tomato sauce. Great soup to use up leftover vegetables. It's a kitchen sink kind of soup, but yummy!
Ingredients:
6 medium potatoes
4 medium carrots
4 stalks celery
1/2 cup green beans
1 medium onion
1/2 cup barley
1 lb hamburger
3 t tomato sauce
12 cups water
1 t salt
1 t onion powder
1 t garlic powder
4 tablespoons margarine
Directions:
1. Put ground beef in a skillet with 2 cups of water. Cook until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the water and grease off. Brown meat a bit longer.
2. Chop all the vegetables and place in a large pan with about 10 cups of water. Add meat and other ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer all day long. The longer it cooks the better. I even put the pan in the fridge and then cook it more the next day. The longer it cooks the better the flavor. Add additional salt and pepper as desired.
