Hollandsche Pudding - Holland Pudding

A from-scratch chocolate pudding from the Michigan Dutch chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947. Chilling time not included in preparation time.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup farina
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk
2/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon butter (no substitutions)
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Directions:
1. Combine farina, cocoa and salt.
2. Add milk, stirring constantly.
3. Cook in a double boiler for 30 minutes.
4. Add sugar, butter and egg.
5. Cool and add nuts.
