Ham and Bean Soup

This came from Thinner Times. I have not tried this, just posting for easy finding.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups chopped ham
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon garlic salt
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon black pepper
3 1/2 tablespoons oil
5 3/4 cups water
1 lb great northern bean
Directions:
1. Soak beans in water overnight.
2. Sauté ham, onion, and celery in oil. Add to beans. Cook approximately 3 hours. About 20 minutes before done, add salts and pepper. Remove 2 cups of beans, mash and return to beans. Heat through.
