Ingredients:
800 g potatoes
25 cl whole milk
1 cup of cream
1 cup of grated soft cheese
salt
pepper
nutmeg
1 large knob of butter
3 garlic cloves
Directions:
1. Wash, peel andslice the potatoes in approximately 3 mm thick slices.
2. Do not rinse after slicing.
3. Place them in a saucepan along with 25 cl milk (whole milk if available), half knob of butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg.
4. Bring to a boil then lower the heat slightly and continue to cook for about 10 minutes.
5. Stir from time to time with a spatula to avoid sticking to the pan.
6. Meanwhile, grease dish with butter and finely chopped garlic.
7. Remove spuds from the heat.
8. Delicately place the potatoes in dish.
9. between every 3 layers of potatoe sprinkle cheese and a bit of cream.
10. Level the surface add final layer of cheese and cream and leave to cool so that flavours blend.
11. Bake at 180° for 20 to 30 minutes - until golden.
12. I find it hold together better once served if i press down on potatoes as it cooks.
13. Serve.
