Years ago I used to make granola a lot, using it to munch on & as a topping for hot cereal. I sometimes substitute chopped dates for the raisins.
Ingredients:
5 cups rolled oats
1 cup bran flakes
1 1/2 cups sesame seeds, unhulled
1 1/2 cups wheat germ
1 cup soya flour
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup dry milk, non-instant
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 cup raw cashew nuts
1 cup slivered almonds, blanched
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup honey
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups dark raisins
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, mix together the first 11 ingredients [the dry ones].
3. In a small bowl, mix the oil, honey & vanilla, & add to the dry mix, folding it in with a wooden spoon.
4. Spread this mixture onto the bottom of a large roasting pan, & bake it, stirring occasionally, for 1 1/4 hours, or until light brown.
5. Cool the baked granola, stirring it several times, & when cooled, add the raisins.
6. Place in tight, glass containers.
