Whenever we went to my granny's for afternoon tea we knew we would be served these. These are nice and chewy. I'm a huge oatmeal/chocolate chip cookie fan but have to admit that these are a nice change from the everyday cookie, I hope you do too. (Don't overcook-unless you like crispy cookies).
Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 drop maple flavoring
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
1. Cream together shortening and sugar.
2. Mix in the molasses, egg, vanilla and maple flavouring.
3. Sift together the remaining ingredients.
4. Add to the other mixture.
5. Mix well.
6. Form into balls.
7. Roll in sugar.
8. Flatten slightly with fork.
9. Place on greased cookie sheet.
10. Bake at 325° for 12-15 minutes.
