Grandmas Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

A recipe from a friend in Maine. His grandmother made them for him as a child and they are now a featured snack at his guest house. I've added molasses for a chewier texture.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cupbrown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 tbsp molasses (black treacle)
1 egg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups oats, rolled (quick cooking)
1/2 cup raisins or chocloate covered raisins
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375F/180C/Gas Mark 4.5
2. Oil cookie sheets or use baking parchment cut to fit sheet.
3. In a large bowl combine SUGAR, BROWN SUGAR and BUTTER.
4. Beat until lilght and fluffy.
5. Add VANILLA, EGG and MOLASSES. Blend well.
6. Gradually add in FLOUR, BAKING SODA, CINNAMON, SALT. Mix well.
7. Stir in OATS, RAISINS and WALNUTS.
8. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls w inches apart on cookie sheet (use a tablespoon for big cookies and drop 3 inches apart).
9. Bake fofr 7-10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown.
10. Cool for 1 minute, remove from cookie sheet and place on wire cooling racks.
