Grandma's Gingerbread

I got this recipe from a friend of mine who tells me it was her Grandma's recipe.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup grandma's molasses
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup hot water
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In medium bowl, blend butter with sugar, add molasses and eggs. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients, add alternately with water to molasses mixture. Bake in greased 9 inch square pan about 50 minutes.
