Grandma Bettys Gingerbread Cake

I'm not a big fan of cake- I know, I'm weird, but this is soo scrumptious! My Mom makes it best, but it's her Mom's recipe. Tastes heavenly warm or cold. Don't forget the whipped cream!
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
3 well beaten eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup boiling water + 2 teaspoons baking soda
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Add eggs and molasses and combine well.
3. Alternately add boiling water mixture and dry ingredients. (Make up water mixture just before you use it)
4. Pour into greased 9X13 pan. (metal is better, edges dry in glass)
5. Bake for 30 minutes at 350F, or until toothpick comes out clean/dry.
6. Serve warm with whipped cream (only very lightly sweetened)
7. Goes well with a fall dinner.
