Courtesy of master baker Bernard Clayton, this recipe yields 200 or more delicious doggy treats that are so good you might be tempted to snack on them yourself. You can add more eggs to the recipe for a more golden color, and you can obviously add whatever supplements (vitamin or otherwise) that you think your doggy might like or might be good for him. Read more . I've been making these treats for my daughter's Italian Mastiff Lupo, and he can't get enough of them. There is yeast in the recipe, but there is no need for the dough to rise, so once you've rolled out the dough and cut out the shapes, they can go right into the oven.
Ingredients:
31/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
1 cup cornmeal
2 cups bulgur wheat
1/2 cup instant non-fat dry milk
1 tbsp salt
1 package instant yeast, dissolved in 1/4 cup warm (105-110° f) water
1 pint chicken stock
1 egg (or more) beaten in 1 tbsp milk
Directions:
1. Combine all dry ingredients.
2. Add dissolved yeast and stock.
3. Knead into a stiff dough (about 3-5 minutes)
4. Roll out into 1/4-inch sheets. Cut into shapes and arrange on a sheet pan.
5. Bake at 300° F for 45 minutes. Turn off oven and leave biscuits to cool completely.
