German Hot Spiced Wine Drink - Recipe from my local farmer's market newsletter. This is a very good recipe. It can turn even the crappiest bottle of red wine into a an enjoyable warm comfort beverage on a cold winter night! Read more ! I make it all the time in the winter.
Ingredients:
1 cup orange juice
1 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
2 oranges
20 whole cloves
1 (750 ml) bottle merlot, burgundy, cabernet franc, red wine
Directions:
1. In a saucepan, combine the orange juice, sugar, and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer.
2. Stud the oranges with the whole cloves, then slice into eights. Place into the simmering mixture and continue cooking for about 30 minutes until the mixture gets thick and syrupy.
3. Pour in the wine and heat through, but do not BOIL.
4. Serve in mugs.
