One I have been making for 30 years ... need to post for safe keeping! Had to call Mom for the recipe as the book I needed is packed away in a box that is hidden under covers while dust flies due to a geo thermal project!
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups shortening
1/4 cup water
2 cups sugar
1 cup molasses
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 eggs
4 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
5 -5 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon clove
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon ginger
Directions:
1. Mix first six ingredients.
2. Add dry ingredients.
3. Let chill for 1 hour.
4. Take 1 TBSP dough (I like to make them BIG!) , roll into a ball and roll in granulated sugar.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remember all stove temps are different.
