These are a wonderful molasses cookie & the vanilla frosting is so smooth and creamy! They have been a family favorite for years!:-) Ooh, they freeze well too.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 tablespoons milk (approx.)
Directions:
1. FOR COOKIES: Mix together sugar, water, molasses, shortening and egg.
2. Sift together remaining dry ingredients and add to molasses mixture.
3. Bake 400 for 8 minutes.
4. Cool~ Frost with Vanilla Frosting.
5. FOR FROSTING: Mix together sugar and butter; beat in vanilla and enough milk to make it smooth and of spreading consistency.
