Back a couple hundred years ago, one had to have a licence to make ginger bread. I don't think grandma had one (of course, she was never THAT old!), but her ginger bread was my favorite.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup molasses
1 tsp clove
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
2 tsp soda in 1 cup boiling water
2 1/2 cup flour
2 eggs
Directions:
1. Stir butter to soften, gradually add sugar, creaming til light and fluffy. Addd egg and molasses; beat throughly.
2. Sift together dry ingredients.
3. Add to molasses mixture alternately with boiling water, beating after each addition.
4. Bake in well greased 8x8x2-inch pan in moderate oven (350) about 35 to 40 minutes or til done. Serve warm.
