German Meat Casserole

Despite its funny name, this is great. It is from a recipe book from my college Dining Common and it one of the meals I remember with affection.
Ingredients:
3 medium potatoes
5 carrots
1 onion
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1 (4 ounce) can mixed mushrooms
1/2 cup butter
2 cups breadcrumbs
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Grease a 1 1/2 quart cassarole dish.
3. Peel and slice potatoes and carrots, parboil.
4. Dice onion.
5. Brown beef and onion.
6. Make alternating layers of beef and vegetables in the cassarole dish.
7. Mix together ketchup and soup, pour over cassarole.
8. Drain mushrooms and place over sauce.
9. Melt butter and combine with breadcrumbs, sprinkle over casserole.
10. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
