German Chocolate Angel Pie

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup heavy cream , whipped
  • crust
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tarter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

Directions:

  1. Crust:
  2. Beat egg whites with salt and cream of tarter until foamy.
  3. Add sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold in vanilla and nuts.
  6. Spoon into lightly greased 8 inch pie pan to form nest like shell, building sides up to 1/2 inch above edge of pan.
  7. Bake at 300 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes.
  8. Cool
  9. Filling:
  10. Stir chocolate in water over low heat until melted; cool until thick.
  11. Add vanilla.
  12. Fold whipped cream into chocolate mixture.
  13. Pile into cooled shell.
  14. Chill 2 hours.
  15. Substitute: 5 ounces Hershey chocolate bar for German Choc.
