Ingredients:

  • 1 package of nestle's semisweet chocolate morsels, 12 to 18 oz.
  • 1 to 2 tsp real vanilla extract
  • 1 vanilla bean (optional)
  • 1 splash of chambord (optional)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, split or whole (optional, a creative topping)
  • whatever else you like with this kinda thing (cream cheese or marshmallow topping, etc)

Directions:

  1. In a deep sauce pan, low heat, melt
  2. Chocolate morsels (i,e, chocolate chips, Nestle's works best for whatever reason)
  3. Stir constantly until the chocolate appears to be retempered (i.e., develops a nice glossy sheen)
  4. Add 1 small can of sweetened condensed milk ( Borden is excellent for this, Carnation is slightly over par)
  5. Stir to homogeneity (just fold it in gently and stir it around)
  6. Add 1 to2 teaspoons of real vanillla extract (imitation is not allowed here)
  7. Fold and stir to homogeneity
  8. Add a splash of Chambord to taste (or none if one is tasteless)
  9. Fold and stir to homogeneity
  10. Add your nuts, crazy if you like (minced hazelnuts are best in this, but pecans, walnuts or almonds work well too)
  11. Serve hot over vanilla ice cream with sliced peaches or whole Strawberries, or raspberries (or whatever fruit ya choose)
  12. Line an 8 inch glass casserole with wax paper, pour it in, top it with a favorite fruit or marshmallow or cream cheese, or no topping at all, and let chill in the refrigerator, then slice into 3/4 inch squares and give the junkies a treat
  13. NOTE: if you have a vanilla bean to spare, split it lengthwise and let it soak in the condensed milk during preparation, then just toss it in the mix.
  14. NOTE: a sprig of mint is a wicked garnish with this.
  15. NOTE: good quality hazelnut liquor is great substitute for chambord (if there is sucha thing)
