This is an old basic receipe from a cookbook my grandmother had that was written back in the 1920's. It's a very basic receipe meaning if you have the fruit on hand, the rest of the ingredients are probably on your shelf. Good served warm with ice cream or even with milk poured over.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
3/4 cup milk
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 lb butter (1 stick)
fresh fruit (peaches, blueberries, apples or cherries)
Directions:
1. Melt butter in 8 x 8 cake pan.
2. Mix remaining ingredients together into pan.
3. Spoon sweetened fruit (to taste) over batter.
4. Bake at 375 for 35-45 minutes.
5. (NOTE: if you don't have fresh fruit, you can use frozen but reduce milk to 1/2 cup).
