This recipe was given to me by a dear friend of mine when I lived in Puero Rico. He taught me to make tostones, and told me I could eat them with just about anything and he was right. Eat them with rice, pork, beans, soups, fried eggs, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Ingredients:
enough oil to cover the bottom of your frying pan |
2 plantains, peeled and cut into chunks about 1/4 inch thick |
salt to taste |
Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a large skillet. 2. Place the plantains in the oil and fry on both sides; approximately 3 1/2 minutes per side. 3. Remove the plantains from the pan and flatten the plantains by placing a plate over the fried plantains and pressing down. 4. then return them to the hot oil and fry 1 minute on each side. Salt to taste and serve immediately. sprinkle with salt 5. you may also put a thin slice of cheese of your choice as soon as you remove them from the oil and it will melt |
