Ingredients:
3 pounds okra
5 slices bacon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Directions:
1. Wash okra well; drain. Cut off tip and stem ends; cut okra into 1/4-inch slices, and set aside.
2. Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, reserving drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon, and set aside.
3. Sprinkle salt and pepper over okra; toss gently. Cook okra in reserved bacon drippings over medium heat 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Cover, and cook an additional 15 minutes or until okra is tender, stirring occasionally.
4. Note: This is a traditional method of frying okra without batter.
