Grew up having always had cabbage boiled, Irish ya know. Well some time ago a friend served just plain old cabbage fried up in a pan with butter. We have eaten it this way ever since. My kids do no eat boiled cabbage but they love it fried. Read more . Easy side dish with little prep and hardly no mess. We serve it alot with grilled salmon.
Ingredients:
cabbage (green) - any size head
butter and/or margarine (depends on your taste)
mixed up salt seasoning
Directions:
1. Remove outer leaves and core from cabbage.
2. Slice cabbage into wedges and cut wedges into sliced pieces.
3. In Deep Fry Pan, melt 1-2 pats of butter over medium heat
4. Start adding cut-up cabbage, pan may not hold it all, depends on the size of the head used. I usually end up doing 3-4 pans full.
5. Add additional butter, mix it into the frying cabbage-to your taste.
6. Fry cabbage and flip every so often to get it all cooked.
7. I fry it pretty good, we like it somewhat fried and still a little crunchy.
8. Transfer to a bowl and add 1-2 T margarine, depending on size of dish. I add this just for extra flavor and we like it.
9. Add additional batches on top, give a good stir to mix in the margarine and combine the warmest batch with the first batch.
10. Serve with Jane's Original Mixed Up Salt(our favorite), or just regular salt and pepper is good too.
11. Great side to grilled salmon or steak.
