Fresh Strawberry Cake

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, crushed
1 (6 ounce) package strawberry gelatin
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/3 cups sweet milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 (16 ounce) box confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/8 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, crushed
Directions:
1. Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until fluffy.
2. Add strawberries and gelatin; beat well.
3. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk.
4. Add vanilla and beat well.
5. Fold in egg whites.
6. Turn into 3 greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
8. When cake is cool, blend the confectioner's sugar, softened butter, and strawberries.
9. Beat thoroughly and spread between layers.
