FRENCH TOAST IN THE OVEN This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Love Estate in Sachse, Texas in 1984.
Ingredients:
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 stick butter
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 loaf french bread cut diagonally into 16 slices
5 eggs
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chopped pecans
Directions:
1. In medium bowl with pastry blender combine sugar, butter and corn syrup until well mixed.
2. Press in bottom of unbuttered jelly roll pan.
3. Place bread slices over brown sugar mixture.
4. In another medium bowl beat eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla until well blended.
5. Pour evenly over bread.
6. Cover then refrigerate overnight.
7. Heat oven to 350.
8. Sprinkle with pecans and bake for 35 minutes.
