French Onion Soup Modified From Sandra Lee

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients except cheese, croutons, cornstarch and 1/4 c water in large stovetop pot
  2. Bring to Boil
  3. Cover, and allow to gently boil 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally
  4. Remove lid and simmer, allowing to reduce and thicken
  5. (Add beef stock, or seasoning as needed, as cooking time progresses)
  6. Allow to simmer until 15 minutes til serving time
  7. If needed at this time, mix cornstarch in 1/4 c water and pour into boiling soup
  8. Stir constantly until thickened slightly
  9. Ladle soup into individual, oven proof bowls
  10. Place bowls on baking sheet
  11. Add Croutons to each bowl
  12. Cover each with a slice or handful of shredded GruyereCheese
  13. Broil until cheese is melted
