French Market Bean Soup

this sounds so hearty, with a loaf of french bread. mmm-mmm. Not in the summer, though. This will have to wait till fall, I think!
Ingredients:
1 lb assorted dry beans
2 qts water
1qt chicken broth
1 t salt
1 ham hock
2 bay leaves
1/2 tdried thyme. maybe a pinch more
28 oz can tomatoes, chopped
2 c chopped onion
2 c chopped celery
1 clove garlic, mashed
8 oz smoked sausage, sliced
8 oz chicken breast, diced
Directions:
1. soak beans overnite
2. In a large soup pot, combine beans,water,broth, salt, ham,bay, thyme,onion, celery.
3. simmer 2 1/2 -3 hours.
4. add tomatoes,garlic, sausage and chicken
5. simmer 1 1/2 hours more
