Fluffy Banana Cake

This is another recipe I found in a recipe book I have.
Ingredients:
2 large or 3 small bananas
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening (soft)
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk
Directions:
1. Use mixer to mash bananas.
2. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt.
3. Put in large bowl shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
4. Beat with mixer for 1 1/2 minutes.
5. Add sifted ingredients alternately with mashed bananas while beating at low speed.
6. Beat only enough to blend.
7. Pour batter into 2 9 inch layer pans that have been greased and floured.
8. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes.
9. Remove from pan. Cool.
10. Fill and top with whipped cream.
11. (Makes 1 large cake.)
