A rather exceptional waffle made with yeast and mulling spices. Top it all with cinnamon bake apples drizzled with caramel sauce and of course top it off with roasted pecans and a three dollops of whip cream. Read more Don't forget to sprinkle some cinnamon, then drizzle a tad of caramel sauce. Yeah, caramel frappe would be nice!
Ingredients:
1/2 cup warm water
1 package dry yeast
2 cups warm milk
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon aspen mulling spices
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Directions:
1. Day 1: Into a large bowl (this recipe will rise to twice its ingredient size), add the water and dry yeast (sprinkle in from the packet). Let stand for 5 minutes.
2. Add warm melted butter, salt, sugar, and mulling spices.
3. Sift flour into mixture and beat until smooth - no lumps (hand rotary beater or whisk). Cover with plastic wrap and let stand overnight at room temperature.
4. Day 2: Preheat waffle iron(s) and then blend eggs and baking soda into mixture and stir until well mixed. Batter should be very thin. Cook and serve immediately with syrups and meat of your choice. We use fresh sausage.
