Etta Donaldson's Meatloaf

My mom got this recipe when we lived in Tasmania, Australia from her friend Etta Donaldson. My dad and her husband, John taught together at the University of Tasmania. Etta was a very beautiful Scottish woman, with 4 boisterous children. Her eldest Jane and I were good friends. Sadly, I have lost touch with the family, but I have very fond memories of watching Australian Rules football games, and running around in their big back yard.
Ingredients:
1 lb sausage
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 cup cabbage, shredded
1/2 cup carrot, grated
1 tablespoon rolled oats
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/4 cups tomato sauce or 1 1/4 cups tomato paste
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon mustard
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
3 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
Directions:
1. Meat Loaf:.
2. Mix all ingredients. Press into 9x5 loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven for 1 1/4 hours. Serve with barbecue sauce.
3. Barbecue Sauce:.
4. Mix all together and serve with meat loaf. Also good with pork chops.
