English Pea Salad

This is an heirloom recipe from my Aunt Clara.
Ingredients:
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can green beans, drained
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can small english peas, drained
1 onion, sliced thin
1 (2 ounce) jar pimientos
1 cup celery, chopped
3/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup vinegar (aunt clara used white, i prefer rice)
1/3 cup canola oil or 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Directions:
1. Combine first 5 ingredients.
2. Combine sugar, vinegar and oil.
3. Bring to boil and stir until sugar dissolves.
4. Add this mixture to other ingredients.
5. Chill 24 hours before serving.
