I love sloppy joes, but never seem to remember to buy a mix. So after trying out a few recipes I found online, I finally combined what I liked best about all of them and came up with this recipe. My whole family loves it and there are never any leftovers.
Ingredients:
2 pounds lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 tbsp. crushed garlic
1/4 cup mild salsa
1/4 cup ketchup
4 tbsp. yellow mustard
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1/8 cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste
8 hamburger buns
Directions:
1. Place ground beef, onion and garlic in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until beef is evenly browned.
2. Drain off any grease.
3. Stir the salsa, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture.
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Heat to a simmer over low heat, and cook until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently to prevent it from burning on the bottom.
6. Spoon the beef mixture onto buns.
7. *Note: If you like your meat to be very fine, instead of chunky, use a food processor to chop it up into smaller pieces.
