Easy Simple White Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375F..
  2. Grease and flour a 9 inch round cake tin.
  3. Cream the sugar, salt, and shortening.
  4. Add the egg and beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Mix in the vanilla.
  6. In another bowl mix the flour and baking powder together.
  7. Add 1/3 of the flour mixture to the creamed mixture and mix briefly.
  8. Add 1/3 of the milk and mix.
  9. Continue twice more with the remaining milk and flour.
  10. Do not overmix.
  11. Pour batter into cake tin.
  12. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean after inserrted.
  13. Let the cake cool for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove from tin and let cool on a wire rack.
  14. You can double this recipe for 2 tins if you want to make a layer cake.
