Easy Overnight French Toast Casserole

Serve dusted with confectioner's sugar and offer warm maple syrup, if desired. Good sides are breakfast sausage links, fresh squeezed orange juice and fresh berries or melon chunks. Yummy!
Ingredients:
8 -10 slices french bread, 1-inch thick
1/2 cup butter
6 large eggs
4 cups half-and-half cream
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar (optional)
warm maple syrup (optional)
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish.
2. Arrange the bread slices in the dish, turning to coat them in the melted butter.
3. In a large bowl beat the eggs and add the half and half, vanilla, baking powder, nutmeg and the cinnamon; mix well.
4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread in the baking dish.
5. Cover and chill for 8 hours or overnight.
6. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking.
7. Bake uncovered in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 45-55 minutes.
8. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
9. Dust with confectioner's sugar before serving, and offer maple syrup on the side, if desired.
