This is my less-sugar, reduced-fat version of the original Easy Cheese Danish recipe by The Country Cook . While certainly not health food, the taste is identical and you'll feel a little less guilty when indulging! Read more !
Ingredients:
2 tubes reduced-fat crescent roll dough
1 (8 oz.) package reduced-fat cream cheese (softened)
1/4 cup granulated white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tbsp. butter (melted)
4 tbsp. light brown sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese with white sugar and vanilla extract until creamy and smooth.
3. Separate canned dough into eight rectangles. Seal perforations.
4. Brush melted butter onto the dough.
5. Sprinkle each rectangle with about 1/2 tbsp. of brown sugar.
6. Roll up from long side; pinch edges to seal.
7. Holding by one end, loosely coil each onto greased cookie sheet.
8. Using fingers, make dent in center of each coil and stretch and spread out dough to make room for the filling.
9. Top each coil with about 2T. of cheese filling.
10. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown. Allow Danishes to cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle with glaze.
11. Glaze:
12. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup powdered sugar with 1/2 t. vanilla extract and 1-2 tsp of milk.
