I never liked bread pudding until I came up with this recipe. Bread pudding just seemed to dry to me. I wanted to find something with a rich custard base that was not too sweet but that filled that need for a little bit of dessert. Read more . After playing around with a basic bread pudding recipe, this is what I came up with. It is sinfully rich. Its also so easy and uses canned apple pie filling which is very convenient! If you like the conbination of apples, raisins and cinnamon, you should love this dish. Let it cool completely in your fridge and then cut into small squares. You could serve this with some whipped cream but it doesn't need it as its rich enough!
Ingredients:
1 package of hawaiian-style sweet bread or any other sweet bread, cubed or broken-up into small pieces.
5 large eggs, beaten slightly
2 cups of whole milk
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of raisins
1/2 cup of regular, salted butter
1, 21 ounce of apple pie filling
1 tb cinnamon
Directions:
1. Place the milk, sugar and butter into a microwave for one minute or until the butter melts. You can use a pot on the stove and heat over medium until the butter melts.
2. Let the milk mix cool
3. Line a 9-by-13-inch pan with the pieces of bread.
4. Sprinkle raisins over bread.
5. Cover the raisins with the pie filling.
6. Add the beaten eggs to milk mixture and pour over ingredients over the pie filling in the pan.
7. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
8. Remove from oven and let cook before placing into refrigerator.
9. Chill until the pudding is cold.
10. You can slice small squares at this time and serve or let the pudding come to room temperature.
