My grandma's favorite for weekend breakfast. Really easy to pop in your mouth with some cold milk or hot coffee.
Ingredients:
2 c sifted flour
1/4 c sugar
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp nutmeg
1/4 c wesson oil
3/4 c milk
1 egg
Directions:
1. Sift the first five dry ingredients together.
2. Add oil, milk and egg to the dry mix and stir with fork until mixed.
3. Heat enough oil (either wesson or crisco) for deep frying.
4. Drop batter by TEASPOONFUL into deep oil and fry until golden brown which could be a few minutes.
5. (Test middle of donut if cooked which determines if oil is hot enough or if cooked long enogh. Large puffs will not cook thru.)
6. Roll warm puffs in sugar and serve.
7. Makes 2 1/2 dozen puffs.
