Saw this on a local food show and looked up the recipe....Gotta love a corn dog with a tail.
Ingredients:
canola oil to fry
1 cup yellow cornmeal
1 cup flour
2 tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cayenne
1 jalapeno, seeded then finely chopped
1 can cream-style corn, (8.5 oz.)
1/3 cup onion, grated
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
4 tbls. cornstarch
4 tbls. flour
4 hot dogs, skinless
Directions:
1. Heat oil in large pot to 375
2. In mixing bowl, add cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cayenne
3. In large mixing bowl, add jalapeno, corn, onion, and buttermilk
4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients all at once
5. Stir only enough to bring batter together; there should be lumps
6. Rest 10 minutes
7. Slice hot dogs lengthwise making long strips, 8 to a hot dog
8. Mix cornstarch and flour in mixing bowl
9. Coat hot dog in flour mixture and shake well to remove excess
10. Put hot dog strips in bowl of batter
11. One at a time, using tongs, put strips into oil
12. Fry until coating is golden brown, about 4-5 minutes
13. Remove to paper towels and drain
