From BUST magazine. Vegan and free of chemicals like parabens, artificial color/fragance, sodium lauryl sulfate, and aluminum. It is not an antiperspirant so it won't stop you from sweating but it will stop you from smelling like BO, and will soothe sensitive skin. Store-bought deodorants/antiperspirants stain the underarms of my clothes. All-natural types like this one do not. All of the ingredients can be purchased from the health food store. Use any essential oils you like but lavender is a natural choice for its antibacterial properties. Lavender goes well with sweet orange and ylang-ylang.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons shea butter
2 tablespoons cocoa butter
3 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons arrowroot or 2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 vitamin e gel caps
10 -20 drops essential oils
Directions:
1. In a double boiler (or a glass measuring cup in a a pot of simmering water), melt the shea butter and cocoa butter. Add the baking soda and arrowroot or cornstarch. Puncture the vitamin E gel caps and squeeze the oil into the mixture. Give it a good stir.
2. When liquefied, remove from the heat and pour into a 1/4 pint jar. Stir in the essential oils.
3. Place in fridge for at least a few hours until solid. Take it out and let it come to room temperature. Do not store in fridge (vitamin E is a natural preservative). The texture should be between a firm cream and a soft solid.
4. To use, scoop out a pea-size amount with your fingers and apply to your armpit. A slightly wet armpit makes it easier to spread. Makes enough for three odor-free months.
