This is an old recipe of my mother's that was most likely passed down from her mother. I have called it a date roll cake to differentiate from the American date and nut rolls that are nothing like this recipe. It is easy to make and can be whipped up quickly when friends are coming around to have with coffee or tea, or as a snack, or after dinner cake. You cut the roll up into slices when cool and spread with butter...YUM
