Deep-dish Apple Pie

Simple no-crust deep dish pie was adapted from Bon Appetit (August 1984).
Ingredients:
6 granny smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup brown sugar (for pie filling)
2 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons apple cider or 2 tablespoons apple juice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (for topping)
1 cup flour (for topping)
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Spray 9-inch (at least 1/2 inch deep) pie pan with cooking spray.
3. Combine first 7 ingredients (apples- cinnamon) in bowl.
4. Spoon apple mixture into pie pan.
5. Sprinkle with pecans.
6. To make topping: Combine last three ingredients (1 1/2 cups brown sugar- butter) with fork until crumbly.
7. Sprinkle topping over apples.
8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until brown and bubbling.
