Decadent Pecan Pie With Chocolate

Decadent is exactly what this pie is. Sweet with a touch of salty from the nuts and the chocolate adds an extra twist to this classic. Rich and dark filling unlike some pecan pies. A staple for my holiday dinners. Read more . To save time I use the pre-made store pie crust (in the frozen section) and it tastes just as good! (Adapted from BHG)
Ingredients:
deep dish frozen pie shell, or homemade
4 eggs
1-1/4 cups corn syrup (dark or light)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash salt
1-1/4 cups salted pecans
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon butter or shortening
whipped cream for garnish (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, beat eggs with a whisk. Whisk in corn syrup, sugar, butter, vanilla, and salt. Stir in the pecans.
3. Pour filling into pie shell, then pllace pan in a foil-lined shallow baking pan.
4. To prevent overbrowning, cover pie edge with foil.
5. Bake pie for 25 minutes. Remove foil. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes more or until center seems set when gently shaken.
6. Cool on a wire rack.
7. Combine chocolate chips and butter (or shortening) and In a double boiler (or the microwave) heat until melted (be careful not to burn). Cool slightly.
8. Transfer melted chocolate to a clean, small heavy plastic bag; seal bag. Snip a small hole in one corner of the bag; drizzle melted chocolate mixture over the cooled pie
9. Cut into wedges and serve. If desired, top each serving with whipped cream.
10. Serve or cover and refrigerate within 2 hours.
