DATE TARTS This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Crawford Estate in Quinlan, Texas in 1982. Notation on card indicates this has been in the family for over 100 years.
Ingredients:
2 cups seedless dried dates
2 teaspoons grated lemon rind
3 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons milk
6 unbaked tart shells
1 tablespoon butter
flour
Directions:
1. Rinse and drain dates then chop and mix with rind and lemon juice then with the sugar and milk.
2. Put tart shells in muffin tin.
3. Fill shells and sprinkle each with a little flour and dot with the butter generously.
4. Bake at 400 for 25 minutes.
5. Serve plain or top with custard, cream or meringue.
