Lived on a dairy farm and aunty used to make these. Served them up with 'fresh' butter and homemade gooseberry jam. Mmmmmmmm Memories......try it and start a memory for your family (times are approx)
Ingredients:
1 package yeast
1/4 cup water, about 105-110f degrees
2 cups scalded milk
1/2 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups flour
cooking spray
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeast in water.
2. In med mixing bowl combine milk, butter, and salt; cool to lukewarm.
3. Add yeast mixture.
4. Stir in flour to make stiff dough that still can be beaten with wooden spoon; beat well.
5. Cover put in warm draftless place let rise til double about 30 minutes.
6. Spray inside side of cans and put on greased Med/Hi hot griddle.
7. Fill the cans half full with dough.
8. Cook them til they are well risen and bottoms are lightly browned (you might have to adjust the heat to keep bottoms browning to fast).
9. Flip cans and all, brown other side.
10. Remove to cool, remove from cans.
11. To serve split, toast.
12. Serve with butter and jam.
