Festive and beautiful! This is an easy breakfast dish! The orange marmalade is the big burst of flavor. It is refrigerated over night, and baked for 25 minutes the next morning.
Ingredients:
6 large croissants, cut into top and bottom halves
1 (9 ounce jar) orange marmalade
3 ounces orange juice
5 eggs
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon almond extract
strawberries , whole or sliced, for garnish
or fresh orange sections ( tangerines, fresh mandarin, or clementines)
syrup of choice
Directions:
1. Place the bottom halves of the croissants into a 13x9-inch buttered baking dish
2. In small bowl, combine the marmalade with the orange juice, mix completely
3. Spoon the thinned marmalade over each croissant bottom half, saving a little to be used as a glaze for the tops of the croissants
4. Place the tops of the croissants over the croissant bottom halves
5. In a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, cream, and almond extract
6. Pour this mixture over the croissants
7. Spoon the reamining marmalade over the top of each croissant as a glaze
8. Cover the baking dish, and refrigerate 8-10 hours, allowing the croissants to soak in the egg mixture
9. When ready to cook, remove from the refrigerator and allow to stand at room temperature for 45-60 minutes before baking
10. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
11. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes
12. Garnish with stawberries and mandarin orange sections (or other oranges)
13. THIS IS TRULY WONDERFUL!
