Crockpot Hunters Stew

Perfect for a fall day or a cold winter's night.
Ingredients:
2 sweet onions, coarsely chopped
2 pounds boneless beef cubes
1 pound cubed chicken, turkey or pork
4 stalks celery, cut into 1/2 inch slices
2 cups baby carrots
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 (14 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
2 large or 4 small cans mushrooms with liquid
2 large potatoes, peeled and cut in 1 inch cubes
2 (0.88 ounce) packages brown gravy mix, divided
Directions:
1. In bottom of greased slow cooker, layer onions.
2. Layer meats on top of onions.
3. Layer with celery and carrots.
4. Cover and cook on HIGH setting 5 hours.
5. Add garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, brown sugar, stewed tomatoes with liquid and mushrooms with liquid.
6. Add enough water to almost cover meat and vegetables.
7. Add one package brown gravy mix.
8. Cover and cook on low setting 6 to 7 hours.
9. If mixture appears to thin at end of cooking time, add second package of gravy mix.
