Creamy Potato Gratin

GIVES A GREAT LIFT TO POTATOES
Ingredients:
2 lb. potatoes, thinly sliced
salt and pepper
1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1 clove of garlic, crushed
1/4 pint of single cream
4 fluid ozs. milk
3 oz. of gruere cheese, grated.
Directions:
1. PREHEAT OVEN
2. COOK POTATOES IN BOILING WATER WITH SALT FOR 5 MINUTES, THEN DRAIN WELL.
3. ARRANGE POTATOES IN LAYERS IN A GREASED SHALLOW OVENPROOF DISH, SPRINKLING EACH LAYER WITH SALT, PEPPER, NUTMEG AND GARLIC.
4. MIX CREAM AND MILK TOGETHER AND POUR OVER POTATOES.
5. SPRINKLE WITH CHEESE
6. COVER WITH FOIL AND COOK FOR 30 MINUTES.
7. REMOVE FOIL AND COOK FOR FURTHER 15 MINUTES UNIL POTATOES ARE TENDER AND CHEESE TOPPING HAS BROWNED.
8. GRUYERE CHEESE IS THE BEST KIND FOR THIS DISH AS IT MELTS EASILY, BUT IF YOU PREFER YOU CAN USE ORDINARY CHEDDAR
