Cream of Fresh Mushroom Soup

Simple and simply delicious. From the Wisconsin Dutch chapter of the United States Regional Cookbook, Culinary Arts Institute of Chicago, 1947.
Ingredients:
1/2 lb fresh mushrooms, cleaned and minced
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons flour
6 cups milk
salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
1. Brown mushrooms slightly in melted butter; blend in flour and stir milk in gradually.
2. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring as needed to keep the mixture smooth.
3. Season to taste and serve with crisp crackers.
