Cranberry Cake With Butter Sauce

A nice addition to your holiday dessert table.
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons shortening, melted
2/3 cup milk
1 egg
2 cups fresh cranberries
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup evaporated milk
Directions:
1. Cake: Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
2. Add shortening, milk, and eggs.
3. Beat 2 minutes.
4. Stir in cranberries.
5. Bake in buttered 9 inch square pan at 350ยบ for 40 minutes.
6. Serve with hot butter sauce.
7. Hot butter sauce: Melt butter in double boiler.
8. Add sugar and milk; mix well.
9. Cook over hot water 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
10. Serve hot over cake.
