Beautiful to serve instead of cold cheese and crackers at your next get-together. I alway make 2 of them, because they are so enjoyed that they disappear quickly!
Ingredients:
pastry ingredients
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
filling ingredients
1 (8-ounce) 4 1/4-inch diameter round brie cheese
3 tablespoons cranberry orange sauce
3 tablespoons chopped almonds, toasted
topping ingredients
1 egg
1 teaspoon water
dippers ingredients
apple or pear slices
crackers
added to
Directions:
1. Combine flour, butter and cream cheese in large bowl.
2. Beat at low speed, scraping bowl often, until mixture leaves sides of bowl and forms a dough.
3. Divide dough in half; wrap in plastic food wrap.
4. Refrigerate until firm (1 hour).
5. Heat oven to 400F.
6. Roll each half of dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness.
7. Cut 8-inch circle from each half (save dough scraps for decoration). Place 1 circle onto ungreased baking sheet.
8. Place Brie on center of pastry circle.
9. Spread cranberry sauce over top of cheese; sprinkle with toasted almonds.
10. Top with other pastry circle.
11. Pinch edges of pastry to seal.
12. Flute edges as desired
13. . Decorate top with small pastry cut-outs.
14. Beat egg with water in small bowl; brush top and sides of pastry. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
15. Remove from baking sheet immediately.
16. Let stand 30 minutes to allow cheese to set.
17. Cut into small wedges. Serve with apple slices and crackers.
18. TIP: Do not remove outer rind of the Brie cheese. It is acceptable to eat and keeps the cheese contained inside pastry.
