This is an incredible bread that I make throughout the year. I got this from a Sunday School class mate several years ago and it is incredible.
Ingredients:
1-1/4 cups warm water
2 packages active dry yeast
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
4 cups all purpose flour
1 egg plus 1 yolk
1 cup grated parmesan cheese
2 teaspoons chervil
1 egg white lightly beaten
1 teaspoon cracked black peppercorn
1 teaspoon paprika
finely grated parmesan
Directions:
1. Place 1/2 cup warm water in large bowl and sprinkle in yeast and stir until dissolved.
2. Add remaining water, sugar, pepper, salt and 1 cup flour then blend well.
3. Stir in egg, egg yolk, chervil, parmesan cheese and enough flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured board until smooth and elastic about 5 minutes.
4. Place in greased bowl then turn and cover with towel.
5. Allow to rise in warm area 45 minutes then punch dough.
6. Remove dough to lightly floured board and divide into 3 equal pieces.
7. Gently roll each piece to 12” rope then braid ropes and place on greased baking sheet.
8. Pinch each end to seal then cover with towel and let rise in warm place 40 minutes.
9. Brush loaf with egg white then sprinkle with cracked pepper and paprika.
10. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes then sprinkle with more parmesan and remove from oven.
